Stack Channel 1 and Channel 2 both in OD mode, with Channel 1 driving Channel 2 for a harmonically rich overdrive.
By adamguitar23
Two stages of King of Tone soft-clipping OD cascading into each other — this is where Brothers AM becomes something greater than the sum of its parts. Channel 1 saturates the signal and hands it off to Channel 2, which saturates it again. The result is a harmonically complex, blooming overdrive that feels thick and vocal without ever becoming harsh or compressed the way hard-clipping distortion does. Both channels stay in OD mode so the soft-clipping character is preserved across the entire stack. Channel 2 (always-on foundation): GAIN 2 at 80 gives a confident medium-high overdrive on its own — this is your standalone rhythm sound. TONE 2 at 66 is slightly bright to keep the stacked signal from getting muddy when Channel 1 kicks in. A touch of PRESENCE 2 at 10 adds a subtle airy quality that helps notes breathe at higher saturation levels. Channel 1 (the pusher): GAIN 1 at 65 means it's already producing its own soft clipping before hitting Channel 2 — two fully saturating stages compounding on each other. TONE 1 at 68 is neutral-to-bright so it feeds Channel 2 with a full, clear signal. VOL 1 at 95 is calibrated to push Channel 2 hard without completely overwhelming it — the sweet spot where the harmonic complexity multiplies. MASTER dip on so VOL 2 controls the final output at all times, whether one or both channels are engaged. Performance tips: • Start with just Channel 2 on (rightActive) — this is your always-on OD voice • Tap Channel 1 in to engage the full stack — notice how the harmonic content multiplies rather than just getting louder or fizzier • VOL 1 is the most important variable to experiment with — lower it toward 80 for a more subtle push, raise it toward 110 to really slam Channel 2 into saturation • Your guitar's volume knob still works beautifully here — roll back to clean up both stages simultaneously • For even more harmonic density, enable HI GAIN 1 (dipBank1 index 0) to push Channel 1 harder into Channel 2 • If the stacked sound gets too dark or thick, nudge TONE 1 up toward 75 to feed Channel 2 a brighter signal • Single notes and bends will sustain and bloom in a way that neither channel achieves alone — this is the configuration for expressive lead playing
