This patch lives in the uncomfortable space between 'is something wrong?' and 'I definitely heard something.' The AMU-2 model is the key — an imaginary deteriorated machine that barely functions, imparting a hollowed, slightly wrong coloring that no real tape machine quite replicates. It sounds like a recording made in a place you don't want to be. WOW at 14 sits just above the sweet spot — musical enough not to scream 'effect,' but restless. Your pitch breathes slowly and unpredictably, like something that isn't quite still. FLUTTER at 22 adds a subtle quiver on top — less of a modulation, more of a nervous texture. Together they create the sense of unstable, living tape. Neither is extreme, but they interact. FAILURE at 28 is the ghost's fingerprint. At this level you won't get dramatic drops or snags — DROP BYP is engaged so the sudden silences are removed, keeping the effect subtle. What remains are the crinkles and pops: small, unpredictable micro-disturbances that surface and vanish. CRINKLE/POP boosted to 78 so these moments have presence when they appear. The effect feels like interference — like something momentarily passing through the signal. SPREAD is engaged, and with FAILURE as the source of stereo information, the crinkles and pops don't just happen — they happen *somewhere*. A pop on the left. A crinkle drifting right. The stereo image is slightly haunted, never quite settled. SATURATE at 18 is felt but not heard — a whisper of magnetic distortion that takes the clean top end and makes it feel older, heavier. DRY at Small keeps your clean signal present so the effect never overwhelms; the ghost is beside you, not replacing you. NOISE at Med with HISS nudged to 72 and MECHANICAL NOISE pulled down to 40 (below noon, so tilting toward VCR mechanical texture rather than hum). A quiet room that isn't quite quiet. The AUX is set to FAIL with a very slow onset time of 100 — when you hold the left footswitch, the degradation escalates *slowly*, like the machine losing its grip. A gradual unraveling rather than a sudden crash. Release and it crawls back. Use this on a held chord or pad for maximum unease.
