Empress Effects Tremolo2 — MIDI Editor & CC Reference

Control the Empress Effects Tremolo2 from your browser — MIDI control reference, interactive editor, and AI-generated presets. Free, no install.

Explore the Tremolo2 controls in your browser and connect compatible MIDI hardware to send settings to your pedal. The reference below shows the controls mapped in Nitelite; available functions depend on the pedal and firmware. The default MIDI channel in Nitelite is 1. Browser MIDI control works in Chrome, Edge, Opera, or Brave — no install required.

ControlMIDI CCDescription
DEPTHCC 20Amount of tremolo effect applied to the signal. Sending 0 is equivalent to fully counter-clockwise; 127 is fully clockwise
RATE | RATIOCC 21In knob mode, sets the speed of the tremolo pulses. In tap tempo mode, sets the ratio of foot taps to tremolo pulses (e.g. at a 1:2 ratio, the tremolo will do eighth notes when you tap quarter notes)
RHYTHMCC 22Selects 1 of 8 rhythms (with "0" being accented): 1) 0000 normal tremolo, 2) 0xx0x, 3) 0xx0xx, 4) 0xxx0xxx, 5) 0xx0xx0x, 6) 0x0x00x0x0 (in 5/4), 7) 0xx0x0x0x0x, 8) 0xx0xxx0x0x0xxx
OUTPUTCC 23Sets the overall output level (volume) of the pedal

Special MIDI Functions

  • MIDI Clock Listener — CC 51. When enabled (default), the Tremolo2 listens for MIDI Clock messages and uses them for its tempo. Disable to ignore MIDI Clock — note: if MIDI Clock messages are discontinued while the pedal is listening, the tremolo volume will freeze until clock resumes or this is disabled
  • Rhythm Downbeat — CC 26. Determines which beat of the rhythm will fall on the downbeat. A value of 3 will have the 3rd beat of the rhythm on the downbeat
  • Waveform Phase — CC 27. Phase of the waveform relative to the beat. A value of 64 has the waveform in phase. Higher values move the waveform ahead relative to the beat; smaller values move it behind
  • Direct Control — CC 40. Overrides all other settings and lets you set the amount of tremolo volume directly with MIDI values. Useful for drawing your own waveforms in a DAW and sending them to the Tremolo2
  • Exit Direct Control — CC 50. Sending this message with any value will cause the pedal to exit direct control mode

Hardware Presets

Tremolo2 has 8 hardware preset slots, recalled using MIDI Program Change. Saving requires an action on the pedal; follow the hardware preset manager instructions.
