Connect a pedal

Allow about five minutes once your cables are ready. You need a supported pedal, its MIDI connection, and a browser that exposes Web MIDI on your device.

1. Follow the cable

Keep your guitar and amp connected normally. MIDI carries control messages, not your guitar audio.

Computer → USB-MIDI interface OUT → pedal MIDI IN
Guitar → pedal audio input → amp or audio interface

If the exact pedal supports USB MIDI directly, the interface may be built in. A USB socket alone does not establish MIDI support. Check cables and adapters.

2. Choose the output

Open the app and allow its MIDI permission request. Open MIDI in the sidebar, then choose Output device. Pick the port wired to the pedal. A virtual or loopback port is only useful if you have deliberately routed it to your hardware.

1. Output device selects the route to the pedal.
2. Connected confirms the app has a destination, not that the pedal received a message.

MIDI Live means the app has an output available. It cannot tell you whether the pedal received a message. Selecting an input is not required for this one-way control workflow.

3. Match both MIDI channels

Open your pedal, then Channels. Set its app channel to the channel the physical pedal listens on. The app selection does not automatically change the pedal’s own configuration.

Use the hardware setup guide for the pedal’s hardware instructions. Follow any physical steps before pressing a channel command button. Some pedals need only a menu change; others learn a channel from a message.

4. Prove the connection by listening

Play a short phrase and make one obvious, reversible change, such as reducing the effect mix. If you hear the expected difference, restore it and continue. A changing app control or MIDI activity indicator alone is not this test.

If nothing changes, follow Pedal not responding. If it works, save a sound.

5. Start from the settings on screen

Click Sync to Pedal when you are ready for the app’s settings to take over the pedal’s current sound. Then play, adjust, and save a preset you can return to.

Sync sends settings from Nitelite to the pedal. It does not read the physical knobs, save a cloud preset, or write a hardware slot. Listen to confirm the result.
