Control the Universal Audio MAX from your browser — MIDI control reference, interactive editor, and AI-generated presets. Free, no install.
Explore the MAX controls in your browser and connect compatible MIDI hardware to send settings to your pedal. The reference below shows the controls mapped in Nitelite; available functions depend on the pedal and firmware. The default MIDI channel in Nitelite is 1. Browser MIDI control works in Chrome, Edge, Opera, or Brave — no install required.

MIDI CC
Description
PREAMP
CC 22
Comp 1 UA 610 tube preamp level. Increase to add drive and harmonics. Fully counter-clockwise (0, OFF) disables the preamp and its EQ — Comp 1 has clean unity gain. Just above OFF keeps preamp EQ active without tube coloration.
COMP
CC 25
Comp 1 compression amount. Clockwise for more squeeze and sustain. Level is auto-compensated as compression rises. On OPTO LA-2A and FET 1176 models, minimum silences the signal — rotate up to hear output. On DYNA this is the original hardware's Sensitivity control.
OUTPUT
CC 26
Comp 1 pedal output level. In Parallel mode, used to balance a heavily compressed path against a less compressed path.
ATTACK
CC 27
Comp 1 attack time (FET 1176 only). Onset speed after the signal crosses the threshold — clockwise for FASTER attack, matching the original 1176 hardware. Has no effect on DYNA or OPTO LA-2A.
RATIO
CC 28
Comp 1 compression ratio. Behavior depends on the Comp 1 model. OPTO LA-2A: 4:1 matches the original hardware's COMP setting, 20:1 / ALL matches LIMIT mode, OFF gives circuit color with no compression. FET 1176: 4:1 to 20:1, ALL is the famous 'all buttons in' response, OFF gives circuit color only. Unused on DYNA. Step values are 0, 20, 50, 80, 110, 127.
RELEASE
CC 29
Comp 1 release time — recovery speed after compression. Clockwise for FASTER release. OPTO LA-2A: the original hardware has no release control; noon matches the original. FET 1176: adjusts the original hardware release. Unused on DYNA.

Description
PREAMP
CC 32
Comp 2 UA 610 tube preamp level (ALT). Increase to add drive and harmonics. Fully counter-clockwise (0, OFF) disables Comp 2's preamp and its EQ for clean unity gain.
COMP
CC 35
Comp 2 compression amount (ALT). Clockwise for more squeeze and sustain. On OPTO LA-2A and FET 1176, minimum silences the signal.
OUTPUT
CC 36
Comp 2 pedal output level (ALT). In Parallel mode, used to balance a heavily compressed path against a less compressed path.
ATTACK
CC 37
Comp 2 attack time (ALT, FET 1176 only). Clockwise for faster attack. No effect when Comp 2 is set to DYNA or OPTO LA-2A.
RATIO
CC 38
Comp 2 compression ratio (ALT). Steps: OFF / 4:1 / 8:1 / 12:1 / 20:1 / ALL. Unused on DYNA.
RELEASE
CC 39
Comp 2 release time (ALT). Clockwise for faster release. Unused on DYNA.
Comp 1 Sidechain Bass Filter — CC 30. Comp 1 sidechain bass filter (FET 1176 only). Removes low-frequency content from the compressor's control sidechain to reduce pumping on bass-heavy signals without affecting the audio's bass content.
Comp 2 Sidechain Bass Filter — CC 40. Comp 2 sidechain bass filter (FET 1176 only). Reduces pumping on bass-heavy signals without affecting the audio's bass content.
Comp 1 Preamp Low EQ — CC 23. Comp 1 UA 610 preamp 100 Hz low shelf. 0 = -6 dB cut, 1 = Flat (off), 2 = +6 dB boost. Inactive when Comp 1 Preamp knob is OFF.
Comp 1 Preamp High EQ — CC 24. Comp 1 UA 610 preamp 10 kHz high shelf. 0 = -6 dB, 1 = Flat, 2 = +3 dB, 3 = +6 dB. Inactive when Comp 1 Preamp knob is OFF.
Comp 2 Preamp Low EQ — CC 33. Comp 2 UA 610 preamp 100 Hz low shelf. 0 = -6 dB, 1 = Flat, 2 = +6 dB. Inactive when Comp 2 Preamp knob is OFF.
Comp 2 Preamp High EQ — CC 34. Comp 2 UA 610 preamp 10 kHz high shelf. 0 = -6 dB, 1 = Flat, 2 = +3 dB, 3 = +6 dB. Inactive when Comp 2 Preamp knob is OFF.
