MIDI Channels

MIDI supports up to 16 channels. Each channel is like a separate lane — devices that listen on channel 1 ignore messages sent on channel 2, and vice versa. This is how you can control multiple pedals on the same MIDI cable without them interfering with each other.

If you run multiple pedals on a single MIDI chain (daisy-chained through MIDI THRU ports), every pedal on the chain receives every message. MIDI channels let each pedal filter to only its own messages.

For example:

  • BigSky set to receive on channel 1
  • Thermae set to receive on channel 2

When Nitelite sends a reverb change on channel 1, only the BigSky responds. The Thermae ignores it.

Each pedal in your collection has its own channel setting. To change it:

  1. Open the Collection panel from the left sidebar (Pedals icon).
  2. Find your pedal.
  3. Set the channel number (1–16).

The channel is saved immediately and used whenever you select that pedal in Nitelite — both in single-pedal mode and in signal chains.

Setting the Matching Channel on Your Pedal

Section titled “Setting the Matching Channel on Your Pedal”

Your physical pedal also needs to be configured to receive on the same channel. How to do this varies by pedal — check your manual. Common methods:

  • Chase Bliss: Use the DIP switches on the back of the pedal.
  • Strymon: MIDI channel is configured via MIDI messages or through the pedal’s menu.
  • Source Audio: Use the Neuro app or MIDI messages.

If no channel is set for a pedal in Nitelite, it defaults to channel 1 (or channel 2 for Chase Bliss pedals, which ship defaulting to channel 2).
